FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WINTER HAVEN, FL – For the first time in program history, ASA Miami's women's soccer program began its regular season with a victory and ended its season with one as well, taking down host and conference foe Polk State College 3-1 Wednesday night.
Not only did the Silver Storm (6-4) set a fiddly record, they also secured top-three seed in the upcoming Region VIII conference playoffs. ASA Miami can finish no lower than third in the seeding thanks to the two-goal-difference win over Polk State. Depending on the outcome of Thursday's (Oct. 24) game between Daytona State College and Eastern Florida State College – where a Daytona State win would give it the No. 2 seed – the Lady Silver Storm could either be considered the home team or visiting team in the semifinal matchup.
The Region VIII playoffs will begin October 31st and all games will be played at Daytona State College.
ASA Miami and Polk played through a scoreless first half Wednesday before the Lady Silver Storm took control of the game. Sophomore Anika Duncan broke the scoreless tie in the 50th minute when she got her foot on a Luiza Lischt Da Silva pass and got a laser of a shot past the Polk State goalkeeper.
Sophomore Valentina Restrepo extended the Silver Storm's lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute – her 14th goal of the season. Polk State ruined ASA's shutout bid with a goal in the 63rd minute, but sophomore Natalie Strkalj put the game on ice with a "banger" in the 75th minute to give ASA Miami the final margin of 3-1.
