ELLISVILLE, MS – Coaches will sometimes be wary of their teams having a "let down" after earning a big win against a tough opponent. And given all the factors working against ASA Miami going into Saturday's game – having just defeated the No. 14 team in the country on an 89th minute goal and playing its second game in as many days, it was natural for ASA Miami head coach Dave Luna to be concerned about how his team would play.
Luna was worried for nothing, turns out.
The Lady Silver Storm netted five first-half goals and cruised to a 5-0 win over Itawamba Community College Saturday night on the neutral field of Jones Community College.
Transfer sophomore Anika Duncan led the way with a pair of goals – the first coming on a rebound-putback to put ASA Miami on the board in the 20th minute.
Freshmen Kalena Iwashita and Anna Motley pushed the Lady Silver Storm's lead to 3-0 with goals in the 22nd and 27th minutes respectively. Duncan tacked on the fourth goal in the 44th minute and sophomore Valentina Restrepo put the finishing touches on the rout with a goal later in the 44th minute.
Winning Saturday completed what turned out to be a fruitful trip to The Magnolia State. Not only did the Lady Silver Storm come away with a pair of victories, they had the opportunity to increase team camaraderie during the 13-hour road trip and earned some early stripes of fortitude.
