FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 25, 2019
HIALEAH, FL – Following what was the best women's soccer season in program history, ASA Miami head women's soccer coach David Luna announced the team's 2019-20 schedule Thursday.
2018 was a banner year for the Lady Silver Storm. The program set new program highs for consecutive wins (7), overall wins (11), and notched its first-ever playoff appearance and playoff win.
Instead of resting on their laurels and taking a bath in last season's good fortune, Luna and his squad continued to work throughout the spring and into the summer in preparation for the 2019 season, a year in which more teams will be anticipating their matchup with ASA Miami.
The Lady Silver Storm is set to run a 19-match gamut, which will be the largest regular season schedule ever played by ASA's women's soccer program. Of those matches, only seven will be played on ASA's home pitch of Milander Park.
The other 12 will be on the road, with three being played on a neutral field.
ASA Miami will play a pair of exhibition friendlies on August 19th and 20th – traveling to Palm Beach Atlantic University and Lynn University respectively.
Luna's team will open the regular season with an 831-mile road trip to Ellisville, Mississippi to take on Jones County Community College on Friday, August 23rd. Jones County, which went 14-3 in 2018, should be an excellent test for the Lady Silver Storm right out of the gate. ASA Miami will be in The Magnolia State for the weekend, as they will take on Itawamba Community College (MS) on August 24.
The Silver Storm's home opener will be on August 26th, when ASA host four-year school Barry University. The match is set to kick off at 6 p.m. at Milander Park.
Following the home opener, ASA Miami will hit the road again – locally to face Nova Southeastern University on August 28 and a road trip to Pensacola, Florida where the Lady Silver Storm will Louisiana State University-Eustice (Aug. 31) and Gordon State College (Sept. 2). ASA will also travel to Eckerd College on September 8.
After four straight road games, the Silver Storm will come home and go through a long stretch of home games.
The Lady Silver Storm will host four games in the span of a week, beginning with Webber International on September 14; Florida National University on September 16; open conference play against Broward College on September 18; and cap the homestand with a September 21st match against conference foe Polk State College.
After the long homestand, ASA will have eight games remaining – six of which being against Region VIII opponents.
A successful season would at least mean another playoff berth either via the Region VIII play-in game (Oct. 28) or outright in the regional semifinals on October 31st. The Region VIII final will be played on November 2nd, with the winner advancing to the district tournament the following week. An amazingly successful season would see ASA Miami make its first-ever trip to the NJCAA Women's Soccer National Tournament in Melbourne, Florida.
