THOMASVILLE, GA – In the same vein akin to when a pitcher hits a home run, ASA Miami freshman goalkeeper Lucas Do Nascimento scored a pair of goals on free kicks while also coming up with five saves Friday night to lead the Silver Storm to a 3-1 victory over host Thomas University's junior varsity team.
It was a much-needed win for ASA Miami (3-5-1). The Silver Storm had lost five of its previous six games – with the five losses all coming at the hands of conference foes while also playing to a 1-1 tie with Florida National University on October 3rd – and was going through a scoring drought (one goal scored in the past six games).
Vladimir Segura put ASA Miami, which will travel from Thomasville, Georgia to Daytona Beach, Florida to play a Sunday afternoon neutral site game against Georgia Military College, on the board in the first half when he got his foot on a Martin Giroto pass and put the ball past the Thomas University goalie.
After the Night Hawks responded with a goal of their own, Do Nascimento broke the 1-1 tie when he sent a laser of a kick into the back of the net late in the first half. Do Nascimento gave the Silver Storm an insurance goal midway through the second half when he scored on another free kick – putting ASA Miami up 3-1.
