HIALEAH, FL – ASA College-Miami right-handed pitcher Jose Ulloa saw one of his childhood dreams come true Wednesday as he was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 24th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
Ulloa, who committed to play for former ASA Miami head baseball coach Jonathan Hernandez at Bethune Cookman University earlier this year, will accept Philadelphia’s offer and report to the club in the coming weeks.
In being drafted, Ulloa becomes the second ASA Miami baseball player to be drafted by a Major League team in the program’s history. Leudeny Pineda was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 26th round of the 2018 MLB Draft, but Ulloa is the highest-drafted Silver Storm baseball player.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound, righty worked in the bullpen for ASA this season. His skill and power on the mound began to shine towards the end of the season, including an impressive relief outing during game two of the Region VIII championship series.
