Silver Storm Continue To Impress At UM Alumni Meet; Kala Penn Leads NJCAA

CORAL GABLES, FL. - The ASA College-Miami Track & Field team is shining bright and turning heads during their outdoor season in 2017. Individuals like Kala Penn and Ronique Todman have already punched their tickets to the 2017 NJCAA Nationals in Hutchinson, Kansas in May.

This weekend, the Silver Storm competed at the University of Miami Alumni Invitational meet. The two day event began on Friday and concluded on Saturday evening in Coral Gables. Schools from all over the country made the trip down to sunny South Florida. Several NCAA Division I schools participated in the event other than the host Hurricanes, such as the University of Pittsburgh, Syracuse University, the University of Connectitut, the University at Buffalo, FIU and FAU were among some of the schools competing at Cobb Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

Kala Penn continued to dominate in the long jump on Saturday afternoon. She broke two personal records. Penn won the women's long jump and finished seventh in the 100 meter sprint. With a jump of 6.24 meters, she is now tied for having the best long jump among all women's NJCAA Division I participants.  Penn also improved her 100 meter time on Saturday (11.89).

Ronique Todman was second in his heat and finished 12th in the 200m, posting a time of 21.53.

Cameron Oliver was ASA's top finisher in the men's 100m, placing 20th with a time of 10.94. That was also a personal record this season for Oliver.

Ibsen Marcial finished third in the men's high jump, setting a personal record this season with a jump of 2.0 meters. 

Next up for the Silver Storm is the NTC/Pure Athletics Spring Invitational in Clermont, Florida. The event is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 15th.
