HIALEAH, FL. - Darius Sawyer has signed a scholarship to continue his collegiate career with Eastern New Mexico University. ENMU is an NCAA Division-II program in Portales, New Mexico that competes in the Lone Star Conference. During the 2017-2018 season, the Greyhounds traveled to Tucson, Arizona and played the No. 3 ranked team in Division-I basketball, the University of Arizona Wildcats.
Before transferring to ASA Miami, Sawyer played for Florida Southwestern in 2016-17 as a Freshman. During his sophomore year with the Silver Storm, Sawyer averaged 13.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. The Inverness, Florida native was a great all-around player and it showed as he routinely stuffed the stat sheet. Sawyer was part of a small group of players in the state of Florida that tallied at least 380 points, 170 rebounds, 60 assists, 50 steals and 25 blocks in a single season. Sawyer recorded three double-doubles during the 2017-2018 season and reached a career-best 33 points and 11 rebounds against Indian River State College on February 24th during sophomore night.
Sawyer will enroll at ENMU in the fall semester of 2018 and begin studying Recreation and Sports Management. During his prep carer, Sawyer was named Citrus County Boys Basketball Player of the Year, Citrus County Boys Track Athlete of the Year and Citrus County Male Athlete of the Year in 2015. He played for his father, Douglas Sawyer at Lecanto High School. Sawyer's father, Doug Sawyer, played his college ball at the University of New Mexico.
