HIALEAH, FL. - Coach Jean Dubuisson begins his third season with ASA Miami next month when the Silver Storm take on Florida Southwestern on November 1st at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.
This year's roster has a healthy balance of rookies and experienced players. Five members of last years team return, with only Anthony Gomes and 6'9" big man Claudy Edouard logging any game experience. Gomes played in 28 games and averaged 10.4 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game for the Silver Storm. Most of the experience on the roster comes from transfers from both two-year and four-year schools. The transfers are led by Eugene Joseph, who is a State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota transfer. Joseph was named to the 2016-2017 Suncoast Conference Second Team All-Conference after averaging 12.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Also, Darius Sawyer (Florida Southwestern) and Sherer Desinor (Johnson & Wales - Charlotte) are a pair of transfers that are expected to have big roles for ASA this season. Coach Dubuisson expects a quartet of freshman to make a splash during the 2017-18 campaign. Marquez Smith, a guard out of Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale has shown crazy athleticism early on during scrimmages. The other three freshman are all over 6'5" with Michael Ferguson, Braithe Ferguson and Drake Tisdale rounding out the newcomers.
