HIALEAH, FL – ASA Miami’s football home game against Southern Prep-Baton Rouge has been canceled, announced ASA Director of Athletics Ken Wilcox Friday morning.
The game against the Huskies was already a late reschedule to replace the original September 8th opponent – North Florida Prep – after it canceled just days before the game.
Wilcox and Silver Storm head coach Chris Boden confirmed that they will attempt to fill the schedule with another opponent during an open week – likely either October 27th or November 11th.
ASA is scheduled to host on Southern Prep on September 22th – which Boden said won’t be affected by Saturday’s cancellation.
Also, the Silver Storm’s junior varsity team will still travel to Louisiana to face Southern Prep on September 29th, Boden confirmed.
Losing a game this coming weekend is bittersweet for the Silver Storm, who were chomping at the bit to get back on the field to rid themselves of the sour taste from a 30-7 loss to Lackawanna College on Sept. 2.
However, with no live game this weekend, ASA has extra rest and extra preparation for its monumental road showdown with No. 3 ranked Snow College (Sept. 15).
The Silver Storm will be traveling to Ephraim, Utah to take on the Badgers as a part of the back half of a two-year, home-and-home series.
Snow College defeated the Silver Storm at Ted Hendricks Stadium this past season in a 58-36 contest that was closer than the final score would dictate – as ASA cut the Badgers’ lead to just eight (37-29) midway through the fourth quarter.
The Silver Storm will have a normal week of practice (Monday through Thursday) prior to departing for Utah Friday. The game against Snow College is set for Saturday at 9 p.m. at Robert Stoddard Field.
