HIALEAH, FL. - ASA College Miami released its 2018 football schedule Wednesday, May 23rd. The Silver Storm will take on four teams who finished this past season ranked in the top 20 of the 2017 NJCAA Football Rankings. ASA Miami football is independent and does not belong to an NJCAA conference due to their geographic location. ASA Miami is the only junior college football program in the state of Florida. Next season, by playing five NJCAA opponents, the Silver Storm are eligible to receive an NJCAA bowl bid if they finished the season ranked in the top 20.
The Silver Storm will open the 2018 season at home on August 25th against Advance Prep Academy at Ted Hendricks Stadium in Hialeah, Florida. ASA Miami is 3-0 all-time against APA and has outscored the Panthers 134-6 in those meetings.
The first NJCAA opponent of the season will be Lackawanna Community College on September 1st. This marks the first time that the programs will face each other. Lackawanna was the 2017 runner-up in the Northeast Football Conference and finished the season ranked No. 19. The location of that game is still to be determined.
ASA Miami will also face Louisburg Community College for the first time in program history this season. The Silver Storm will travel to Louisburg, North Carolina on October 20 to face the Hurricanes, who went undefeated (7-0) in 2017.
ASA will also travel to Ephraim, Utah to face Snow College, which finished the 2017 season 10-1 and ranked fourth in the NJCAA, on September 15. The Silver Storm fell to Snow College in a 58-36 slugfest this past season. Though the Silver Storm came up short, ASA's defense turned in an impressive defensive performance in the second half - forcing four total takeaways as the Silver Storm cut the Badgers' lead to 37-29 with 7:50 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Silver Storm will also continue its home-and-home series with Georgia Military College in 2018. ASA Miami will host the Bulldogs on September 29 and the Silver Storm will travel to Milledgeville, Georgia for its regular season finale on November 3. Georgia Military College, which finished this past season ranked 18th nationally, is also an independent program and it is the closest geographically to ASA Miami.
Other ASA Miami home games include North Florida Prep (Sep. 8), Southern Prep (Sep. 22), Advance Prep Academy (Oct. 6) and the University of Ft. Lauderdale (Oct. 13).
