Hialeah, FL---In a game for campus bragging rights, the first-year ASA Miami football program prevailed over #17 NJCAA ranked ASA (NY). Even more significant, the junior college football game was the first ever to be played in the entire state of Florida! The Silver Storm improves to 1-1 on the season. ASA New York dropped their season opener this evening.
The Game Winner
With 42 seconds remaining in the ball game, freshman kicker, Wolky Belancourt, drove through the game-winning field goal for the Silver Storm's first ever win as a program.
The Silver Storm found themselves down 7-0 through the first half. They would knot the score at seven, almost six minutes into the second half on a Chaviss Murphy 68-yard reception and touchdown run.
Taking the Lead, But Not for Good
After the Avengers missed on an extra point conversion, the Silver Storm put together a solid 11-play 70 yard-drive capped by a 2-yard Joseph Conde rushing touchdown. A converted extra-point gave ASA Miami their first lead of the game.
With 10:57 left to play and the Silver Storm clinging to a one-point advantage, the game would be delayed for almost an hour due to rain and lightning, force both teams into their respective locker rooms.
Emotions Running High
In a game with historical and academic institution significance, emotions and being too anxious on the line got the best of the two teams. The ASAs combined for 25 penalties, which led to a total of almost 250 of yards lost.
NEXT UP: The Silver Storm will be back in action at Ted Hendricks Stadium to host Elite Performer Sports Academy on Saturday, Sept. 5th. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM.
