After shutting out Broward College this past Saturday, ASA Miami picked up its second win of this young season Monday afternoon with a 6-2 win over host Miami Dade College.
The Silver Storm (2-5) quickly avenged their previous loss to the Sharks – an 11-5 defeat on January 30 – outhitting their opponent for the fourth consecutive game. ASA Miami jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening inning, saw Miami Dade crawl back into the game with single runs in the fifth and seventh innings, then manufactured a 4-run eighth inning to pull away from the Sharks.
Wilfran Hernandez went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored for ASA Miami; Gianny Galvez was 1-for-3 with a triple, a run, and an RBI; Yusniel Aguilar hit 1-for-4 from the plate and had two runs scored.
Julian Cendejas started the game on the mound for the Silver Storm and ended up throwing five innings, giving up three hits and one earned run. Erick Nova threw one and two-thirds in relief (earning a team-high two strikeouts in his time on the mound). However, it was Oscar Vargas who earned the win – throwing one and a third inning in relief over the seventh and eighth innings after the team had taken its lead.
Merfy Andrew earned the save, as he came in from the bullpen and shut the Sharks out in the final inning with power pitches that got up as high as 97 MPH.
