NEW PORT RICHEY, FLA. - ASA Miami dropped game two against Pasco-Hernando State College on Saturday afternoon, 8-7. After taking game one 14-8, the Silver Storm headed into today's game looking to sweep the series against the Bobcats. Instead, both teams will play the rubber match tomorrow at noon, with the winner advancing to the Region X Tournament in Burlington, North Carolina.
In what was a hotly contested game that went back and forth, the Silver Storm took a 6-3 lead after Jefrey Rodriguez launched an 0-2 breaking ball over the right-field fence with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. The Bobcats came right back in the bottom of the seventh to score four runs and take the lead 7-6. When the Silver Storm came up to bat in the eighth, Jonathan Reyes Diaz reached on an error by the PHSC pitcher and Ariel Diaz came in to score to tie the game at seven. The Bobcats would walk-off in the ninth after a single to right-field scored the runner from second.
Leudeny Pineda, ASA's starting pitcher, threw six innings and allowed three runs - two earned on four hits. Pineda struck out seven Pasco hitters.
Kenny Moreno-Costa recorded two hits for the second straight game against PHSC and is batting .500 (4-8) in the series. Tommy Hernandez (2-0, 3.33) will start game three for the Silver Storm tomorrow with the season on the line.
