ASA Miami Baseball Takes Game One Against Pasco-Hernando, 14-8

NEW PORT RICHEY, FLA. - The Silver Storm took game one of a three game series against Pasco-Hernando State College, 14-8 on Friday afternoon. Game two of the series is set for tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. Leudeny Pineda will start for ASA. Pineda has gone at least five innings and allowed three-or-less runs in the last 4-out-of-6 starts. 

Jiancarlos Garcia, Kenneth Moreno-Costa and Ariel Diaz each recorded two hits for the Silver Storm. Moreno-Costa and Peter Baldrich led the way offensively for ASA with three and two RBI, respectively. ASA took advantage of 12 walks issued by Pasco pitchers and turned them into 14 runs. At one point in the seventh inning, PHSC pitchers could not find the strike zone and threw 12 straight balls.

Mario Lopez got the start for the Silver Storm and fought through his five innings. Lopez allowed seven runs on 10 hits. Anthony Vazquez, who is usually a starter for ASA came in relief and shut the door on PHSC. Vazquez earned the win in four innings of relief. Vazquez allowed one run late in the ninth inning on two hits with three strikeouts. With the win, Vazquez becomes the program's all-time leader in wins with 10.
