FT. MYERS. - The ASA Miami baseball team is poised for a strong season in 2018. That was easy to see when the Silver Storm traveled to Ft. Myers this weekend to face Florida Southwestern at City of Palms Park. ASA and FSW played a pair of double-header games on Saturday afternoon after the Buccaneers took game one of the series 2-1 on Friday night to open the 2018 season for both teams.
The Bucs came out on top in both seven inning double-header games on Saturday. The first game went scoreless till the bottom of the fourth inning when a wild pitch by ASA plated the games only run. The Silver Storm appeared to have tied the game in dramatic fashion during the top of the sixth inning Jefrey Rodriguez came up to bat with the bases loaded and two outs. Rodriguez hit the ball back to the pitcher and he decided to try and go home for the final out. The FSW pitcher stumbled and fell to the ground but managed to lob the ball to the catcher in time for the final out of the inning. ASA starter Trent Massaro tossed five brilliant innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out seven.
The second game included the third great start by ASA pitchers on opening weekend. Anthony Vazquez went five innings, allowing two runs while striking out four batters. ASA starter's allowed four earned runs and eight hits in 15 innings pitched. The Silver Storm would strike first in game three after a sac fly from Kenneth Moreno-Costa scored Alex Rodriguez in the first inning. Then, heading into the seventh down 2-1 with two outs, Alex Rodriguez put a ball over the left field fence to tie things up at two-all. The Bucs would come right back the next inning and walk-off with a hit to left field.
