Silver Storm Baseball Awarded Seven Selections To All-Region Team

HIALEAH, FL. - Seven members of the ASA Miami Baseball team were selected to the 2017 NJCAA DII All-Region VIII team. Among those who were named, two are pitchers and five are position players.

Several guys on the team this year put up impressive numbers and now they are beginning to receive some recognition. Offensively, the Silver Storm averaged seven runs a game and held a team batting average of .317.

All three of ASA's starting out-fielders were named to the All-Region team.  Juan Teixiera has been the most consistent hitter all year for the Storm. Teixiera is currently hitting .408 and leads the team in RBI (47). Peter Baldrich is hitting .394 with 45 RBI and Kenny Moreno-Costa is currently the leader in triples in all of the NJCAA Division 2.

The other two position players named for ASA are first baseman Orlando Ribalta, who owns virtually every school home run record and shortstop Erick Delgado. Ribalta has homered nine times so far this season with 44 RBI and a .322 batting average. Delgado has been so valuable to this team in so many ways. At the plate, with his glove and on the bases. Delgado holds a .333 batting average and has stolen 29 bases this season.

ASA Miami Baseball won the Region 8 Championship largely in part because of their two-headed pitching monster. Mario Lopez and Anthony Vazquez were the final two ASA members on the team. Lopez is 4-3 in 38.1 innings with a miniscule 1.88 ERA. Vazquez is 6-1 on the season in 72.1 innings of work with a 3.11 ERA.
